Solar Energy

Have you noticed more and more homes with solar panels? It’s not your imagination–over the past ten years, solar energy in the United States has seen an average increase of 50% ANNUALLY and, at the same time, the cost to install solar has decreased more than 70% (www.seia.org).

Solar panels create usable electricity by converting energy from the sun. This energy can be used to power your home. If needed, this electricity is supplemented by the grid. If you produce more energy than you use, it can most often be sent into the grid, which will give you credits on future electric bills.

There are many reasons for that.

  • Environmental Advantages: The average residential system offsets the equivalent of driving a car for 100,000 miles over the course of 20 years. Solar energy production is renewable, sustainable, and creates zero emissions from its production.
  • Tax Credits: Federal, state, and (in some cases) local tax credits help offset the initial cost of the system.
  • Savings: You’ll start seeing your energy savings as soon as your solar panels are up and running. The energy produced will help power your home, significantly reducing your energy bills. And, if you are thinking about selling your home, solar panels can increase your home’s value.
  • Long Lasting: The industry standard for solar panels is 80% performance after 25 years.
  • Low Maintenance: There is very little that needs to be done to maintain solar panels. An occasional cleaning to remove any buildup of dirt or debris is all that it takes.

How do you know that solar is right for you?

It is important to evaluate your home to make sure that solar is the right choice for you. What our team will look at:

  • Roof direction: South facing roofs get the most sunlight, with east or west facing also receiving substantial amounts of sun. A north facing roof is not ideal for solar.
  • Roof space: Is your roof big enough to support solar panels, and are there any obstructions that might impact installation (antennas, vents, dormers, etc)?
  • Obstructions: Is anything creating shadows on your roof? Buildings and trees tend to be the main culprits. When evaluating trees, it’s important to see what issues they cause now, and what issues they might cause in a few years when they get bigger.
  • What is the angle of your roof?: This is not a deal breaker, but an ideal roof would angle as close to your area’s latitude as possible.
  • What is your energy usage?: How much do you use on a monthly and yearly basis, and how much do you pay for it?

And you have options when it comes to solar.

The solar pays for the roof
GAF Energy solar can produce electricity at a lower cost than your utility company. The more you produce and use your own electricity, the less you purchase from the utility company. Over time, GAF Energy solar can even pay for itself AND your new roof, via monthly electric bill savings and government incentives.

You can also get credit for solar energy you send back to the grid when your panels produce more power than your home uses. This further increases your monthly savings.

Power and precision
GAF Energy designed the solar to be direct-to-deck. Particularly as compared to rack-mounted solar, our roof-integrated solar has superior water-shedding qualities. And it’s installed by those who know roofs best, the world over: GAF-certified MasterElite roofing contractor: Valverax LLC.
