The Challenge: An Open Porch That Could Not Be Used

This Mullis Forest home in Mint Hill had a perfectly positioned back porch, but it was sitting wide open with zero protection from the outside world. Every time spring rolled around in Mecklenburg County, the pollen came with it. The porch surface, the furniture, and any decorations placed out there were constantly coated in a yellow-green layer of fine Carolina pollen. That is before accounting for rain blowing in from summer storms, insects finding their way in, and general dirt and debris accumulating with every passing week.

The homeowners were not getting any real use out of the space. Putting furniture out there felt pointless when it would be ruined or dirty within days. Having family gather there was not enjoyable when bugs were present and the weather could shift without warning. The porch had real potential, but without protection, it was collecting problems instead of memories.

The Solution: Custom 3-Season Vinyl-Film Enclosure

Valverax designed and built a fully custom 3-season enclosure tailored to the porch dimensions and the homeowners goals. The foundation of the build is a sturdy 2-inch aluminum wall system that forms a solid, weather-tight perimeter around the space. The lower portion of each wall panel is finished with solid 12-inch aluminum knee wall panels, providing a clean, polished base that protects against splashback, wind, and ground-level debris.

Above the knee wall, the team installed a stacking vinyl-film window system with integrated screen. The vinyl-film panels are constructed from flexible clear film that rolls and stacks out of the way when you want the breeze, or closes down tight to keep out rain, pollen, and insects when the weather calls for it. The system keeps an open, airy feel while giving the homeowners real control over their environment throughout the year. This type of flexible-glazed system is offered by Valverax as the Sunleaf™ system.

What This Enclosure Delivered for This Mullis Forest Family

Every detail of this build was driven by what the homeowners actually needed from their porch. Here is what the completed 3-season vinyl-film enclosure made possible.

No More Pollen, Bugs, or Blowing Rain

The stacking vinyl-film windows seal against the aluminum frame to block out the Carolina pollen season, keep insects away, and stop rain from reaching the porch floor and furniture. The space stays clean and ready to use even after a heavy spring storm rolls through Mint Hill.

Porch Usability Across More of the Year

An open porch in Mecklenburg County typically loses months of usability to pollen season, summer insects, and fall wind. The vinyl-film enclosure extends the comfortable season significantly, giving the family more time outdoors without fighting the elements.

Furniture and Decor Fully Protected

With the enclosure in place, the homeowners can finally furnish and decorate the porch the way they envisioned. Cushions, rugs, and accent pieces stay clean and protected inside the enclosed space without constant worry about weather damage or debris.

A Real Gathering Space for the Family

The core goal for this project was creating a place where the family could actually enjoy spending time together outside. With critters, pollen, and unpredictable weather no longer a factor, the porch in Mullis Forest has become a true extension of the home.

Why Homeowners in Mint Hill Choose Vinyl-Film

Vinyl-film windows are the right choice when a homeowner wants weather protection and bug control without permanently closing off the porch. On a beautiful day in Mullis Forest, the panels stack up and the space breathes just like an open porch. When pollen counts spike or a summer thunderstorm moves through Mecklenburg County, the panels pull down and close in seconds.

There is no complicated mechanism and no permanent commitment to a closed room. The vinyl-film system gives the homeowner flexibility that a fully fixed enclosure cannot match, at a price point that makes the project accessible without sacrificing quality or durability.

The 2-inch aluminum wall system is engineered for long-term performance in the Southeast climate, where humidity, UV exposure, and temperature swings put real stress on materials over time. Aluminum does not rot, warp, or corrode, making it the right structural choice for a porch enclosure meant to last in Mint Hill NC.
